CHILWELL TO MISS NEWCASTLE UNITED GAME

Chelsea defender Ben Chilwell will likely spend some time on the sidelines after he picked up an injury while on international break with the Three Lions of England. Chilwell sustained a back injury during the UEFA Nations League meeting between hosts Belgium and England on Sunday night. The injury is expected to see him miss the Premier League clash at Newcastle United this weekend. It is the first matchof the upcoming set of Matchday 9 Premier League games.

Chilwell injured his back towards half-time of the Belgium game and he was replaced by Arsenal starlet Bukayo Saka. Belgium scored two early goals through YouriTielemans and Dries Mertens to hand Belgium a 2-0 victory over the 1966 World Cup champions. It was sweet revenge for the Belgians who had been beaten 2-1 by the Three Lions in their last meeting last month.

The news of Chilwell’s injury is a big blow to Chelsea after the £50m left-back made a bright start to his career in West London following his expensive move from Leicester City in the summer. He has two goals and two assists in five Premier League outings this season plus one assist in two Capital One Cup games. Chilwell also has three Champions League appearances to his name.

In his absence for the Newcastle United game, Chelsea manager Frank Lampard might turn to skipper Cesar Azpilicueta or Spanish international Marcos Alonso to deputize for the injured player.

Chelsea are in fifth position on the Premier League table and a win is needed in the early kickoff with Newcastle United on Saturday afternoon to put pressure on the top four teams. A win over the Magpies would be more than enough to take Frank Lampard and his boys to the top of the Premier League table ahead of the other Matchday 9 games.
