NEWCASTLE LINKED WITH BOSNIAN FORWARD

Newcastle has been a unique club in England as they boast one of the largest grounds in the league in St James Park but the club has not been backed by its owner Mike Ashley. The club also possesses one of the top coaches in Europe in Rafael Benitez who has performed wonders in the past two seasons with a limited budget.

With the Spaniard contract set to expire in the summer, the Magpies are looking for ways to keep the highly rated coach by making big-name signings in the summer. Miguel Almiron made the move in January from Atlanta United in January in a club record deal worth £20 million.

Now latest reports from England claims that the club wants to move for veteran forward Edin Dzeko in the summer. The 33-year-old striker has continued to bang in goals for Roma in the Italian league and was linked with a move to Chelsea last season.

It is understood that Newcastle board believes that the Bosnia and Herzegovina captain can bring the much needed attacking spark to the club next season. Newcastle have been able to count on the services of Salomon Rondon this season as the West Brom loanee has been superb in holding the line for the Magpies.

However, the Venezuelan does not have the reputation of Dzeko who was excellent in the Premier League during his time at Manchester City.  He scored 50 goals during his time at the Etihad and can replicate that form for Newcastle in the EPL.

It is understood that the transfer fee required to sign the player in the summer would be less than £10 million with the bulk of the money going into his wages.

If Newcastle can pull this signing off it could be the turning point in Benitez mind to take charge of the club come next season.
